Overview

Ronseal Nourishing Decking Oil nourishes your decking whilst protecting against water, mould, mildew and fungal growth. It also protects against the sun and stops it from turning grey. It’s lightly tinted to keep the natural look and feel of your deck.

Preparation

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss.

• To clean decking give it a good brush with a stiff broom to remove any dirt, debris or loose wood.
• Check the surface of the decking for loose screws or boards and ensure these are tightened.
• If the decking has been previously stained, painted or varnished, we recommend you strip it back to the bare wood. For previously stained decking use .
• If your deck has been previously oiled, don't try to cover a dark oil with a lighter colour.
• Prior to application to take the deck back to its natural colour. This also helps the oil to soak in, so your deck will look great for longer.
• If your decking has been effected by algae, fungi or clean with .

New decking

• Most new decks come with a bit of waterproofing protection. This could stop the oil from sticking. To avoid this, give your new deck a good scrub with . Alternatively, leave it to weather for six months.

Application

Thoroughly shake tin, test a small area of deck to ensure you are happy with finish and colour.

• Thoroughly shake the tin to ensure the contents is mixed together.
• Pour the contents into a container or tray.
• If using more than one tin, mix together to ensure a consistant colour.
• Apply the oil from the furthest corner in the direction of the grain.
• Work on 3-4 boards at a time.
• Wipe away excess oil with a lint-free cloth.
• Allow to dry for 6 hours then apply the second coat.
• It will be rainproof after 2 hours.
• Allow 24 hours before moving furniture back onto your deck.

Aftercare & Storage

Cleaning

Don’t empty any left over oil into drains or watercourses. Store in a cool dry place and out of direct sunlight.

Maintenance

To keep your finish looking its best for longer, regularly clean your deck and remove leaves, mould, mildew, algae and any other dirt. Mould and algae should be removed with decking cleaner, general dust and dirt can be tackled with a stiff wire broom.

Inspect your coating every six months to look out for any chips or patches. Re-coat the patch when necessary.
